Prite Biswal: Choosing Stories That Let Characters Speak

Bhubaneswar: For actress Prite Biswal, the journey in the Odia entertainment industry may have begun only a few years ago, but she has already managed to leave an impression with her performances in films such as Dotpen and Motorcycle. With her choice of roles and growing screen presence, the young actress is steadily carving out her own space in the industry.

Her debut film Dotpen, which enjoyed a successful theatrical run, is now set for its television premiere on Zee Sarthak this Sunday. (August 9) at 7pm. The film, directed by Aswin Tripathy, revolves around Badal Tripathy, played by Jyoti Ranjan Nayak, whose world revolves around his younger sister. However, an unexpected turn of events shatters their peaceful life and pushes Badal on a relentless quest for justice and revenge.

Biswal plays Badal’s love interest in the film. Speaking about her role, she describes her character as a simple village girl.

“This was my debut film, and I got the role after going through several rounds of auditions. Getting selected was a very exciting moment for me,” Biswal said.

For the actress, working on Dotpen was also an opportunity to learn from an experienced creative team. She particularly remembers her director Aswin Tripathy fondly.

“My experience of working with Aswin Tripathy was very fruitful. He is a wonderful director who treats his actors and actresses very well. He never loses his composure and always remains calm on the sets. That made the working environment very comfortable for everyone,” she said.

Biswal has also shared screen space with Jyoti Ranjan Nayak in Motorcycle, another film dealing with a socially relevant subject—the issue of dowry. Recalling her experience of working with him, she has words of appreciation for her co-star.

“Jyoti Ranjan Nayak is a very good actor and, more importantly, a very good-hearted person. He was always there for me, gave me guidance and helped me a lot. Working with him has been a great experience,” she said.

Biswal began her career in 2022 with the television serial “Maa Jahara Saha” on Zee Sarthak. Since then, she has gradually moved towards films, with her performances reflecting her willingness to explore different characters.

For the actress, however, it is not the size of a role but the strength of the story that matters most.

“Story is very important to me. That is why I am currently reading stories carefully before choosing a project. I believe that if the story is good, even a small character can make a big impact,” she said.

Beyond acting, Biswal is pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration and also runs a handloom saree business. She describes these aspects of her life as equally important, allowing her to balance her creative aspirations with her academic and entrepreneurial interests.

An Odissi-trained dancer, Biswal also sees dance as an important part of her artistic foundation. Her journey in the entertainment industry has been supported by her family, who have encouraged her to pursue opportunities in films and television.
As she looks ahead, Biswal appears keen to take on characters that challenge her as an actor rather than simply chase projects for the sake of visibility. With Dotpen reaching television audiences after its successful theatrical release, the young actress hopes the film will bring her work to an even wider audience.
