Mehermunda Hits Theatres Across Odisha; Special Premiere Held in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The much-awaited Odia film Mehermunda was released in cinema halls across Odisha on Friday, May 15, marking the arrival of a socially driven story rooted in the state’s rich handloom heritage.

Ahead of the public release, a special premiere show of the film was organised at Kesari Talkies in Bhubaneswar on Friday, drawing members of the film fraternity, artists, and cinema lovers.

Directed by Nikunj Hota, Mehermunda shines a spotlight on Odisha’s traditional handloom saree weavers and the emotional as well as economic struggles faced by artisan families. The film portrays the lives of weavers who preserve centuries-old traditions through their craft but often remain under-recognized despite their contribution to the state’s cultural identity.

The movie stars Jyoti Ranjan Nayak, Arlin Ankita, Rakesh Kumar Padhi, and Susanta Dasmohapatra in pivotal roles. The story, screenplay, and dialogues have been jointly written by Suraj Mohapatra and Nikunj Hota.
The recently released trailer had generated considerable buzz for its emotional storytelling and realistic portrayal of weaving communities. With powerful performances and a narrative deeply connected to Odisha’s cultural roots, Mehermunda is expected to strike a chord with audiences across the state.
