Opera Buzz: “Surjyabanshi” Set to Challenge and Shine in Jatra Season

Bhubaneswar: In a fresh development in Odisha’s vibrant Jatra circuit, a newly formed opera troupe, Opera Surjyabanshi, is gearing up to make a strong impact in the upcoming season. With ambitious planning and a star-studded lineup, the troupe aims to add new energy and glamour to the Jatra industry.
Preparations for the new season are currently in full swing.

The troupe is being produced by Sunil Kumar Raut, while veteran director and playwright Bankim Swain has taken charge as the chief director. Their combined experience is expected to shape the troupe into a major contender this season.

Opera Surjyabanshi is drawing attention for its impressive cast, featuring several well-known artists from the Jatra and entertainment world. Popular on-stage pair Rati–Mituna will be a major highlight.

Alongside them, audiences can expect performances from noted artists such as Happy–Mamuni, Sara–Milan, Dani–Tikili, Rati–Pramila, Sandhya, and comedians Maku and Calendar. Other performers include Sridhar, Aju, Shubhendu Sagar, Seema, and Bulu.

The troupe has also lined up an exciting slate of plays for the season. These include:

“Bhauja Viral” (Written and directed by Har Barik)

“To Sindurare Mu Sundari” (Written and directed by Er. Ashutosh Mohapatra)

“Jhiatira Na Mane Paduni” (Written by Papu Brahma, directed by Binod Raut)

“Bagha” (Written by Deepak Jena, directed by Mahesh Hazra)

With a blend of experienced leadership, popular performers, and engaging productions, Opera Surjyabanshi is expected to emerge as a strong competitor and a crowd-puller in the upcoming Jatra season, potentially elevating the overall appeal of the industry.
