Bhubaneswar: The newly released Odia film KANGULA – Maa Kali Ra Danda Nacha has emerged as a strong box office performer, with the makers announcing a three-day collection of Rs 31.89 lakh. Following a solid opening, the film has continued to draw audiences to cinema halls across the state, prompting the makers to label it a blockbuster hit.
Released on April 24, Kangula opened with Rs 8.57 lakh on its first day and has shown steady growth over the weekend. The strong three-day performance indicates positive audience response and growing word of mouth.
Directed by Aswin Tripathy, the film is inspired by Odisha’s sacred Danda Nacha tradition and blends devotion, mystery, sacrifice and divine power. Deeply rooted in Odisha’s culture, the story revolves around the fierce spiritual energy of Maa Kali.
The film stars Sambeet Acharya in the lead role, alongside Suryamayee Mohapatra, Abhishek Giri, and Sritam Das in important roles. Actress Payal Routray also features in a special song sequence that gained popularity during the film’s promotional campaign.
Produced by Suvendra Kumar Malla (Litu) and Sambeet Acharya, the film built strong pre-release buzz through its trailer and songs such as “Anugul Ra Tukuli” and “To Pari Haba Kie.”
With impressive weekend collections and encouraging audience turnout, Kangula has positioned itself as one of the notable Odia releases of the season. The makers are now hopeful of maintaining the momentum in the coming days.
