Bhubaneswar: After months of delay, the much-awaited Odia thriller Kantarati (The Contractor) is back on track. The makers on Tuesday unveiled the first look of actress Suryamayee Mohapatra from the film, signalling that the project is now moving steadily towards release.

Sharing the update, the production team stated, “It’s delayed, but not derailed. Kantarati (The Contractor) is gearing up stronger than ever and coming soon to your nearest cinema hall.”
Produced under the banners of SM Entertainment and Amara Studios, the film marks their first venture together. The thriller revolves around the gripping story of a serial killer, promising a dark and intense cinematic experience for Odia audiences.
The film is directed by veteran filmmaker Ramesh Rout and produced by Shrabani Patnaik and Suvam Mohanty.
Rout, who has directed over 27 films including Godfather, Chand Na Tame Tara, Kabula Barabula, and Tora Mora Katti, brings his extensive experience to the suspense-driven narrative. He has also written the story, while the screenplay is jointly penned by Rout and Nishant Majhitia.
The movie stars Devesh Ranjan, Suryamayee Mohapatra, and Tapas Sargharia in key roles. Music for the film has been composed by Abhijit Majumdar, adding to the film’s suspenseful tone.
Earlier, the muhurat ceremony of the film was held at Jagannath Temple Khandagiri in July last year, with shooting commencing in September. However, the project faced unexpected delays before finally regaining momentum.
Producer Shrabani Patnaik expressed confidence in the film’s appeal, saying the movie is “very different from the regular films watched by audiences in the state” and expressed hope that its unique thriller storyline will captivate viewers.
With its intriguing premise and experienced team, Kantarati now aims to make a strong impact at the Odia box office upon release.
