Bhubaneswar: Renowned playback singer Papon, celebrated for soulful hits such as Bulleya, Jiyein Kyun and Moh Moh Ke Dhaage, has made his debut in the Odia music industry with the romantic track ‘Kuni Kuni’ from the upcoming Odia film Bara Badhu.

Directed by Beeswaranjan, Bara Badhu features Kuni Kuni as a heartfelt composition that delicately captures love, longing and tender emotions. The song blends soft melodies with poetic lyrics, offering listeners an intimate and emotionally rich musical experience.

Opening up about singing in Odia for the first time, Papon described the experience as both new and enriching. Hailing from Assam, where music is deeply rooted in emotion and storytelling, he said adapting to the Odia language required careful attention to pronunciation, rhythm and cultural nuances.
“Odia has a gentle flow and emotional softness,” Papon said, adding that once he understood its nuances, he was able to connect organically with the song’s sentiment.

“Singing in Odia was a completely new experience for me. Being from Assam, I was excited to explore a different linguistic and musical space. Odia has a beautiful emotional depth, and once I understood the dialect, the song began to flow very naturally. It helped me express romance in a pure and honest way.”

The lyrics of Kuni Kuni have been penned by Sunil Parida, with music composed by Bharat-Hitarth.

The film Bara Badhu, starring Sailendra Samantaray, Sivani Sangita, Suryamayee Mohapatra, Hara Rath, Subhasish Sharma and others, is scheduled for theatrical release on February 13.

With Papon’s soulful voice adding fresh charm, Kuni Kuni is expected to resonate strongly with Odia music lovers and enhance the musical appeal of the film.
