Bhubaneswar: Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling on Sunday visited AIIMS Bhubaneswar to inquire about the health condition of renowned Odia music director Abhijit Majumdar, who remains in a critical, comatose state. The Minister was accompanied by Ekamra MLA Babu Singh and veteran actor Sritam Das. During the visit, the Minister spoke with the team of doctors attending to Majumdar and offered reassurance to his family.
“I sincerely pray to Lord Jagannath for his speedy recovery and safe return,” said Minister Mahaling.
Popular Odia music composer Abhijit Majumdar, aged 54, continues to remain in a comatose state at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where he is being treated in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) under the supervision of Dr. Srikant Behera, ICU and ECMO specialist.
Majumdar, who was admitted to the AIIMS Emergency Department on September 4 at 10 AM, presented in a deeply unresponsive condition and was immediately placed on mechanical ventilation.
He is currently comatose with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of E2, VT, M2-3, indicating a severe level of unconsciousness.
While his overall condition remains critical, there have been some signs of stabilization Kidney and liver functions have been stabilized.Electrolyte imbalances — including hypokalemia, hypophosphatemia, and hypomagnesemia — have been corrected.
He is on culture-sensitive antibiotics targeting a multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter bloodstream infection, and is also being treated for bilateral hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP).
His vital signs are currently stableand he continues to receive comprehensive supportive care, including nutritional supplementation and close monitoring.
Majumdar was earlier diagnosed with Osmotic Demyelination Syndrome (ODS) — affecting both pontine and extrapontine areas of the brain — a rare but serious neurological condition, along with underlying chronic liver disease, hypothyroidism, and hypertension.
The medical team at AIIMS Bhubaneswar is continuing round-the-clock critical care support, and his prognosis remains guarded.
