Bhubaneswar: For the first time in the history of Odia cinema, a film based on ‘Shree Jagannath’s Nabakalebara has been made, and audiences are showing immense love and appreciation.
Currently, all theatres are running houseful shows. Devotees are flocking to cinemas to witness the much-anticipated depiction of the sacred Nabakalebara of our revered Lord Jagannath. The divine presence of Jagannath is being felt by devotees, who are becoming emotionally overwhelmed while watching the film.
The theatres are not just filled with spectators—it feels like a gathering of true devotees. The brutal oppression by the tyrant Kalapahad shown in the film has deeply affected the audience, leading them to react strongly. Actor Anshuman, who played Kalapahad, personally visited theatres to offer apologies and show respect for the audience’s emotions. The film, based on Lord Jagannath—the deity of our souls—has drawn packed audiences in theatres across India.
Presented by Sai Shraddha Tele Productions, ‘Shree Jagannathanka Nabakalebara’ has been directed by Saubhagyalaxmi Jena, marking her directorial debut. One of the key producers is Dilip Kumar Jena. To create this star-studded and spiritually significant film, the artists and technicians had to work tirelessly for almost three years.
The cast includes Siddhanta, Suryamayee, Jyoti, Shivani, Shritam, Anshuman, Pinky Pradhan, Kuna Tripathy, Ashrumochan Mohanty, Pratibha Panda, Ravi Mishra, Kedar Mishra, Ratan Meher, Saheb Singh, Shankar, Priyanka Sahoo, Rishi Pattnaik, and Shambhunath Khuntia, among others. The film is based on a popular play written by Odisha Sahitya Academy Award-winning playwright Shankar Tripathy. The music is composed by Malay Mishra.
The vocals have been lent by Ira Mohanty, Satyajit Pradhan, Antara Chakraborty, and Satyabrata Sahu. A notable song written by Dr. Nirmal Nayak, “Jagatare Paibuni Emiti Thakura…” has gone viral. Guruji Chandrabhanu Satapathy has also penned lyrics and composed music for two of the film’s seven songs. All songs are melodious and appealing. Choreography is done by Bobby Islam and Jeetu Raut, cinematography by Dhruvananda Panda, and editing by Sukumar Mani. The film’s promotional lead is Haraprasad Mahapatra.
The film was released in 70 theatres across India. Distribution is handled by Prakash Films, and the executive producer is Pranay Jethi.
