Bhubaneswar witnesses screening of Odisha’s first Odia telefilm ‘Usha’ made in 1987

Bhubaneswar: It is often called that old is gold and witnessing golden moments in Odia cinema is one of the rare moments. In one of such rare moments, cinema lovers in Bhubaneswar today got a chance to see first Odia languiage telefilm named ‘Usha’. The film was aired way back in 1987 in the public broadcaster platform–Doordarshan.

The event was titled Smrutichhaya-19. It was organized by the Film Journalists’ Forum of Bhubaneswar. Akshaya Mohanty Trust also gave a hand-holding support for the same. It was directed and also written by Odia filmmaker Nitai Palit. This old creation expands upto 90-minutes and had the virtue to keep the audience engrossed for these moments. It was shot in 35 mm print. The story of the creation revolved around the age-old societal problem of dowry.

Some of those who played roles –Akshaya Mohanty, Amaresh, Bina, Bhima Singh, Ananta Bharati, Bhima Patri, and Mahendra Mishra. The special screening was organised today at Jaydev Bhavan in Bhubaneswar.

Some of the key persons present during the event included–actors Partha Sarathi Ray, Anu Choudhury and Kuna Tripathy, singers Susmita Das and Sweta Mishra, litterateur Debi Prasanna Pattanayak, dramatist Anant Mohapatra, culture scholar Asit Mohanty and film director Sabyasachi Mohapatra were present on the occasion.
