Bhubaneswar: Popular Odia actress Archita Sahu, who recently announced her pregnancy with husband and actor Sabyasachi Mishra, recently organised a traditional baby shower ceremony known as ‘Sadakhia’, deeply rooted in Odisha’s cultural heritage.
Sharing beautiful moments from the ceremony on social media, Archita wrote,
“A beautiful tradition in our Odia culture during the journey of pregnancy ‘Sadakhia’. Enjoyed every bit of it with my sweetest family and felt blessed. Thought to share with my extended digital family because you all are an integral part of my life. Do you also celebrate in this way with your loved ones? What is it called in your area?”

Sadakhia (ସାଦାଖିଆ), a traditional Odia practice associated with pregnancy, similar to baby shower rituals such as Godhbharai in other regions of India. The ritual focuses on the well-being of the expectant mother, involving special food, blessings, and emotional support. Historically, Sadakhia also has links to folk traditions and community bonding.
