Anant Mahapatra’s ‘Bhabantar’ to Hit Cinema Halls in Odisha Soon

Bhubaneswar: Eminent film and theatre director Anant Mahapatra, celebrated for his contributions to Indian cinema and stage, is back with his latest feature film *Bhabantar*. After garnering attention at various international film festivals, the much-anticipated film is set for theatrical release across Odisha soon.

*Bhabantar* explores the themes of love, duty, and emotional transformation through the intertwined lives of three central characters—Sritam, Shravani, and Milan. The story follows Sritam and Shravani, who marry under traditional circumstances, despite Shravani being in love with Milan. On their wedding night, Shravani confesses her feelings for Milan and refuses intimacy. Sritam, respecting her honesty, agrees to play the role of her husband only until Milan is found. The film delves into the evolving dynamics of their relationship—will Shravani return to Milan, or will she come to accept her life with Sritam?

Director Anant Mahapatra, recipient of the prestigious Mohan Sunder Devgoswami Lifetime Achievement Award and the Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Amrit Award, brings a fresh cinematic perspective with Bhabantar. Known for classics like Batighara (1968), Mamu (1982), and the Hindi film Shodh, Mahapatra continues to push narrative boundaries in his latest work.

The film stars Suryamayee Mohapatra, Abhishek Giri, Saroj Nanda in lead role.

Mohapatra, acclaimed for her powerful roles, most recently seen in *Rangashoor*, a film centered on the Bagha Nacha folk tradition. Alongside her is Abhishek Giri, known for his performances in Ashram and the web series Naali Cha.

Mahapatra’s next venture, Smurti, is also in the pipeline and expected to release soon.
