Love Playing Diverse Roles: Harihara

Bhubaneswar: Popular actor of the Odia film industry Harihara Mahapatra, known for his comic and emotional roles has worked in several Odia language films such as Rumku Jhumana, Dho re Babu Dho, Dil Tate Deichi, Love Dot Com, Akhire Akhire, Pagala Karichu Tu, Haata Dhari Chaaluthaa etc.

He will be next seen in the Odia movie Bhagia Bharija, starring Actress Debjani Deghuria and Harihar Mohapatra. The film will be released on August 9.

The film also stars Bobby Mishra and Pupinder Singh in key roles. The plot of the movie is about the impact of social media and the result of sudden fame in someone’s life.

Hari plays an auto driver who wants a good life for him and her wife. The role of his wife was played by Debjani who is fond of making reels on her cell phone. In an unprecedented turn of events, a filmmaker roped her in for a movie after watching her reels. How the couple’s life changes after that forms the crux of the movie, said director Mrityunjay Sahoo.

The movie is produced by Bhisma Rath and Harihar Mohapatra.

Mohapatra, apart from producing and acting in the movie also wrote the story, dialogues and screenplay of the movie.

Talking to Odia celebrity, Harihar Mohapatra talked about his career, his shift from comedic roles to drama and about the Odia industry.

About the origin of Bhagia Bharija, Mohapatra said, “I have done more than 200 comedic roles but had few lead protagonist roles. In the last few years, I tried to do good lead roles like Rumku Jhumana, Dho re Babu Dho, the second one talks about surrogacy. When I was searching for a new story I thought about that social media impact and its relevance and how it affects society and family. Through this movie, we tried to showcase how a man tried to give his wife a good life and can do whatever he can.”

About director Mrityunjay Sahoo, Mohapatra said, “I had worked with Sahoo in the past also and what I like about him is he is a producer-director and very creative and we connected well.”

About actress Debjani, Mohapatra said, “The first thing that attracted me towards Debjani is that she can portray a variety of roles with ease and in this movie, we wanted an actress who can act different shades of character one of housewife and one of modern glamorous and she fits the role perfectly.”

About his shift from comedic acting to drama Mohapatra said “ In the industry we have seen many actors who were typecast in one role forever in their life.”

“At the beginning of the career I also suffered from that with many comedic roles, as an actor with theatre background I always want to play different characters. Also I am in a situation where I can now choose wait and can do serious roles. With that in mind I did Rumku Jhumana and with that role people started noticing me in serious roles”

About the Odia industry, Mohapatra said “Every industry needs help and the film industry also needs help from the government such as more cinema halls. Apart from that we also must try to do good movies which will attract the audience towards Odia movie. We hope that the new government will take good initiative for the industry”

About his future projects, he said that there are a few interesting projects including a film starring Amlan Das and another with director Tapas Sargharia.
