Bhubaneswar: Shooting for Odia film Bibaha.com has begun at the newly renovated Kalinga Studio in Bhubaneswar, making it the first Odia movie to be shot at the modernised facility since its reopening.
The development has generated fresh enthusiasm in the Odia film industry, with the upgraded studio offering new sets and improved facilities for filmmakers. The shooting of several songs for the film is currently underway on the studio premises.
Produced under the banner of Waxman Entertainment, Bibaha.com is produced by Aravind Mishra and directed by Apu Kanungo. The film is described as a family entertainer with an engaging storyline and is expected to hit theatres soon.
The film features a mix of actors from different film industries, including Mumbai-based actor Rajesh Sharma, Kolkata-based actress Prantika Das, Mumbai actress Gulan Pande, veteran Odia actress Pushpa Panda, and actors Ankit and Abhishek. Choreographer Bidyut Sethi is directing the dance sequences for the songs.
Shyama Prasad Mishra is handling the film’s publicity, while Har Mahapatra is in charge of media management.
Revamped studio offers fresh opportunities
Established in 1980, Kalinga Studio has been associated with several memorable Odia films over the decades. However, it suffered extensive damage during the super cyclone of 1999 and remained underutilised for years.
Its renovation and reopening have raised hopes of revitalising Odisha’s film production infrastructure. The commencement of shooting for Bibaha.com marks an important step in bringing the facility back into active use.
Surendra Kumar Panda, managing director of the Odisha Film Development Corporation (OFDC) and Kalinga Studio, expressed happiness over the commencement of the film’s shooting. He said the newly developed sets would be helpful to producers and filmmakers.
He also said preparations were underway for the second phase of development, during which additional modern sets would be created according to the requirements of producers and directors.
Panda extended his best wishes to the entire team of Bibaha.com.
According to publicity in-charge Shyama Prasad Mishra, the film promises to offer an appealing family story under Kanungo’s direction and is planned for release in theatres soon.
The return of film production to the revamped Kalinga Studio is expected to strengthen Odisha’s filmmaking infrastructure and provide fresh opportunities for the state’s film industry.
