Odia filmmaker and choreographer SK Muralidharan dies in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Veteran Odia filmmaker and choreographer S.K. Muralidharan died after reportedly falling unconscious at a hotel in Bhubaneswar on Monday.

According to sources, Muralidharan was staying at a hotel in the city when he complained of gastric discomfort and requested medicines, grapes and food. Shortly afterwards, he reportedly became unconscious.

His associates immediately rushed him to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

While the exact cause of death is yet to be officially confirmed, sources indicated that he may have suffered a cardiac arrest. His mortal remains have been kept at Capital Hospital and further formalities are underway.

Muralidharan was a familiar figure in the Odia film industry. He began his career as a choreographer before establishing himself as a filmmaker and went on to carve a distinct identity in Ollywood through several commercially successful films.

His notable directorial works include Chhati Chiri Dele Tu, Nei Jare Megha Mate, Akashe Ki Ranga Lagila, To Akhire Mu, Nua Nua Prema and Mu Ashiq Mu Awara.
Among these, Chhati Chiri Dele Tu, Nei Jare Megha Mate and Akashe Ki Ranga Lagila emerged as major box-office successes and remain popular among Odia cinema audiences.

Reacting to his demise, a condolence message said, “Deeply saddened by the demise of veteran filmmaker and choreographer S.K. Muralidharan. His contribution to the film industry will always be remembered.”

The message further prayed to Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength to his family, friends and admirers in this hour of grief.
Muralidharan’s death has left the Odia film fraternity shocked, with colleagues and admirers mourning the loss of a filmmaker and choreographer who made a notable contribution to regional cinema.
