‘Maliput Melodies’ Premieres in Jeypore, Showcasing Koraput’s Local Acting Talent

Jeypore: Odia film Maliput Melodies, set against the scenic backdrop of Koraput, premiered at the SR Novo Cinema Hall in Jeypore, marking its first screening in the town.

The premiere was attended by the film’s cast and crew, including the producers and director, along with several prominent personalities and cinema enthusiasts from Jeypore.

What sets Maliput Melodies apart is its cast, with 75 per cent of the actors being local talents from villages and the remaining 25 per cent comprising theatre artistes. The film does not feature familiar faces from the mainstream film industry and instead brings the acting talent of ordinary villagers to the big screen.

Produced under the banner of Kaustav Dream Works Studios, the film has received a U/A certificate. It was selected and screened in the Indian Panorama Feature Film category at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025 in Goa, where it was the only Odia film in the category.
The film presents the lives and struggles of people in Koraput while also showcasing the region’s natural beauty and cultural landscape. Its screening at IFFI received appreciation from audiences, according to the makers.

Beyond IFFI, Maliput Melodies has also been selected at several film festivals and award platforms in India and abroad, including the Jeypore International Film Festival, National Indian Film Festival of Australia, Kolkata International Film Festival, Chennai International Film Festival, Jagran Film Festival, Seven Continents Awards and Madrid Film Awards.

Based on an original Odia subject, the film combines a family-oriented narrative with songs, music, dialogues and a screenplay rooted in the region. The makers said audiences can experience the landscape and culture of Koraput through the film.

The film has been directed by emerging filmmaker Vishal Patnaik, who has sought to capture the character and flavour of his native land on screen. He is supported by experienced producer Kaushik Das. Tosha Nanda has composed the songs and music, while Sudhakar Patnaik is the story writer. Ram Patnaik and Kaustav Das are the co-producers.

Media Planner Creative Head Pranay Jethi is handling the film’s publicity and promotion.
The production team expressed hope that the film would receive continued audience support and affection, particularly from viewers in Koraput, and help bring the region’s local talent and stories to a wider audience.
