KANKANA Release Postponed; New Date to Be Announced Soon

Prithvi Raj Patnaik's upcoming Odia horror film was earlier scheduled to hit theatres on September 18, 2026.

Bhubaneswar: The makers of the upcoming Odia horror film KANKANA have announced that the movie will not be released on September 18, as previously scheduled, citing unforeseen issues. A new release date will be announced soon.

Sharing the update with audiences, producers Deepak Mahapatra and Bhabani Shankar Subudhi said they were working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that the film reaches viewers in the manner it deserves to be experienced.

“With a heavy heart, we would like to share that KANKANA will not be releasing on 18th September 2026, as previously announced, due to unforeseen issues. We’re working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure we bring you the film exactly the way it deserves to be experienced,” the makers said.
They added that the final release date would be announced shortly. The film will be released by Prakash Films.

Directed by Prithvi Raj Patnaik, KANKANA has generated considerable curiosity with its dark world inspired by Odisha’s folklore, blending myth, mystery and supernatural horror.

The film stars Supriya Nayak, Ankita Mohanty, Suryamayee Mohapatra and Choudhury Jayaprakash Das in key roles. The makers had earlier unveiled individual character posters and a first-look teaser, introducing audiences to the film’s mysterious and eerie world.

The team also released Dagaraa Pimpudi, the film’s first single featuring Supriya Nayak. The energetic track was composed by Somesh Satpathy, sung by Aseema Panda, with lyrics by Ranjan Nayak.

Produced by Deepak Mahapatra and Bhabani Shankar Subudhi under the banner of DB Motion Picturez, KANKANA marks the banner’s venture into Odia cinema. The makers are now expected to announce the film’s revised theatrical release date soon.
